About Us

The Moore’s

Hi Everyone!

My name is Miriam and I have always loved writing, photography, art, children, and the beauty of the outdoors, so a blog seemed like it would be right up my alley. As a child I would make newspapers with all the family news or for my friends in the neighborhood, filled with recipes, activities, and articles. I would spend hours painting or drawing, or writing what I just had a gut feeling would be the next best-selling classic novel (only to usually get so far and abandon the project because I got stumped…).

My favorite memories of childhood include things of that sort, as well as hours spent with my siblings using our imagination to have circuses balancing brooms and trying to juggle or walk along on huge electrical wire spools, go on adventures through the galaxy as Jedi on our swingset, have our own musical bands, make our own cement with the clay in our backyard, and of course ride bikes and eat popsicles. Outdoors, simplicity, creativity make up the best in childhood and throughout life in my opinion. And love. Obviously love.

I have always had a place in my heart for small things, from children to even bugs (though most people I know think I’m a bit crazy when it comes to the latter. I will usually try to get every bug back outside rather than squash it if it comes into my house. Depending on the level of dangerous, but still…). One time I even had a graveyard on the side of our house for all the dead beetles I found in our yard, and I named every single one, buried it, and said a few words over the grave. I am a big advocate for the preciousness of life and the value of individuals. If you couldn’t tell.

Now that I am grown, I have had the great blessing of finding my best friend who became my husband a few months after meeting (I’ll call him Mr. Moore), and we have two beautiful children together, who I will nickname Little L and Miss E on the blog. We have done a lot of evaluating our lives lately, and realizing how quickly time flies, thinking about all of the things we want to make sure we do in our lives and not just be passive and lazy and “normal”. If we have dreams we want to achieve, we better get up off the couch and do them and quit wasting time. We realized that family, simplicity, getting back to nature, quality time, and participating in fulfilling work are among our top priorities. Our current dream is to move to our own land in a few years and start a homestead to raise our children on. I imagine them playing alongside a creek, wading and giggling as small creatures come nibble at their toes, or helping to gather eggs and snuggling with new chicks, climbing trees and making tree houses, eating and drinking healthy foods we have produced ourselves or traded with neighbors, knowing how to be self-sufficient while cultivating gratitude for their food and the work that goes into preparing it, having picnics in the sunshine, playing catch, going off on their own adventures to play and explore and discover, maybe coming home with frogs in their pockets.

We will see how I do, though. It’ll be a big deal for me. We live in the Midwest and the weather drives me crazy, and as much as I value life and creatures, I am also not a huge fan of things like mice, snakes, mosquitos, wasps – you get the idea. It’s gonna be a big adjustment. I also like flexibility, and this will require a little bit more of an actual schedule, etc. to care for animals and a garden every day. But I am going to work up to it by implementing small changes to our home, yard, and routine as it is in the time leading up to us being able to move to our own land. I’ll probably post about this adventure as we learn things and make progress towards this dream.

Also, if you couldn’t tell, we are homeschooling our children. Both my husband and I were homeschooled, and we are figuring out our own style of homeschooling, combining the best of how we were homeschooled and implementing our own perspectives and ideas as well. So many people say that they don’t have the patience to homeschool. My mom has always said that patience is a skill you cultivate, and I have found this to be very true. I always thought of myself as a patient person, but as I have come into adulthood, marriage, parenthood, and been faced with many different situations and obstacles of various kinds over the years, I have found that I am not a very patient person in many ways, and I get easily overwhelmed and irritated. Guess what? It’s natural. But just like anything in life, it’s not the struggle itself that defines you, it’s your actions and reactions to it that determines your character and your story.

Besides, if you observe kids, they are constantly naturally learning things, especially if we don’t stifle their curiosity and creativity by our reactions and things like too much screen time. Let them explore and question and create!

My favorite words the last couple of years are: Love, Life, Presence, Simplicity, Nature, Intention. These are some words that are defining my perspective of the world and what I want to do on a day-to-day basis and what goals I want to aim for. I hope to share some of these things with you through this blog. I plan to have a plethora of posts containing things from homeschool printables, to tips for homesteading or home-birthing, to brain dumps about life and things I learn through motherhood, to ideas for parties, to maybe just lovely photos of what I see in the world around me. Hopefully you can find validation and inspiration through my blog.

I hope you have a beautiful day!
